The story
Four decades after surviving childhood leukemia, Jennifer has successful brain surgery.
Jennifer was diagnosed with leukemia at age three. Her initial ICU treatment began on November 22, 1982; on Thanksgiving Day, she was transferred from the ICU to a pediatric ward. After six phases of chemotherapy and radiation, Jennifer was two weeks away from completing treatment when she relapsed. Treatment began again, along with preparations for a bone marrow transplant. Her twin brother, Jason, proved to be a perfect bone marrow match. Her transplant took place in September 1984 and saved her life.
Jennifer’s brain surgery was completed successfully on September 10 at M Health Fairview University of Minnesota Medical Center - East Bank, and she began her recovery in the ICU.
Jennifer is currently listed as self-pay while awaiting a financial assistance decision. Current documented estimates total about $95,010 before six weeks away from work, postoperative care, prescriptions, transportation, and other recovery expenses. Her family set a $120,000 fundraising goal to help cover that broader need.
